Lionel pw-45n

45N AUTOMATIC GATEMAN (ALL METAL)

The door opens and the gateman rushes out of his house waving his lantern to warn approaching cars that a train is coming. Built from 1934 until 1942, and again from 1945 until 1949. All metal house (after 1949 these were produced with a plastic house). Painted metal construction. Early production had chimney, lattice work sign post, diamond sign, and decal on tool box. Later produced without chimney or decal, and diamond sign changed to a diecast cross buck. Later versions stamped 45N indicate a change by Lionel from insulated track to 41 contactor operation. Door color frequently matches white house but some have a red door matching the roof.
