LEHIGH VALLEY HOPPER CAR FROM GIRL'S SET

This car was built either in 1957 or 1958. It is an open-roofed, quad (four-bay) hopper car, which was only available as part of the 1587S "Girl's set. The Girl's Set was an attempt by Lionel to tap into a market (women) that the company previously saw as a weakness. The trains in the set were all painted in vibrant, pastel colors. Unfortunately for them, the set did not sell well. Fortunately for collectors, the low sales volume translated into the accruement of ridiculous value. The body of this car is painted lilac and the maroon lettering is heat stamped. The car is actually numbered '643657.' The car features a separately applied brakewheel and operating couplers on both bar-end trucks.
