  • Go ahead and question our sanity when we list an item made in 1923 as Like New (C8), but the five bungalows are perfect!
  • The box and box top are complete with all flaps, with a complete original Lionel label
  • The top is missing just one two inch chunk at one corner
  • The inside spacer holding the buildings is also complete, albeit pressed down
  • We will admit we have sinned in applying the Like New rating because we found a round 1/16th of an inch blemish on two roofs (no color change, just a light dulling of the surface lustre) and a couple of dings (less than a 1/32 of an inch) on another
  • But we are steadfast sinner and are maintaining our grading of like new as best describing overall condition
  • Book values for the 186 kit with complete box, insert holding the 5 bungalows, and 5 complete bungalows have ranged from $600 to $1000 for excellent grade, up to $1800 for a like new specimen!!!
  • Rarity is 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 8
  • The box is an extremely tough piece to find in any condition ( Don Shaw)
  • FOR YOUR FURTHER INFORMATION WE HAVE INCLUDED OUR FULL GENERIC DESCRIPTION OF LIONEL'S BUNGALOWS...
  • Built from 1923 until 1942. Uncataloged at times and available on scenic plots as well as sold separately. All steel construction. Stamped 184, 184-1, or 184A-1 on the bottom. Most were lighted
  • Over one hundred variations are known to exist of these great little bungalows! Some of the variations include bases that are lithographed with grass or flowers, or enameled in gray/mojave /hiawatha gray/yellow-flecked gray colors
  • Walls and dormers and porches can be lithographed in white/ivory/gray with red brick foundation and ivy details, enameled white/ivory/cream, or in a textured ivory imitation stucco
  • Roofs were lithographed red or green, or enameled a variety of colors
  • Window inserts have different color variations. Chimneys can be lithographed brick/enameled colors, or imitation stucco
  • Early versions were varnished; The early enamel versions are made of a heavier grade steel Don Shaw.
