  • This set is especially noteworthy because we cannot find a single scratch on three of the four aluminun passenger cars, and just three very tiny marks on flat rib on the roof of one of the dome cars (most aluminum passenger cars left the factory with one or more scratches because of how they were handled at the factory)
  • Authenticity is assured with all four passenger cars having metal maroon stripes instead of reproduction paper stripes
  • The yellow stripe across the roof of both the powered and non-powered A units is heat-stamped (you can feel the depression), again assuring authenticity compared to fakes with silk screened lines with no depression
  • There are 5 black smudges UNDER the end of the decal on the left side ; these are greatly magnified in the picture and are relatively obscure without mangnification
  • As illustrated, there are bits of missing paint at the rear of the maroon edge of the roof on the engineers side of the powered unit
  • The paint between the missing sections indicates to us that no accident caused this; any rubbing would create uninterupted missing paint
  • Instead, this is a painting error thqt occcured in the factory
  • A magnified photo also shows the pinhead sized red mark on the engineers window
  • We always attempt to describe every little imperfection so you know exactly what you are getting, and hope these details do not detract from the overall prime condition of this set - practically all F3's have some type of imperfection
  • Being run very little, we decided a grade of Like New best describes this set, with the marks fully described above
  • there is hardly anything more elegant than this set running with the passenger car lights on and the maroon stripes matching the maroon roof of the locos
  • The original boxes for all cars have all external flaps with some internal spacer flaps missing - we taped all internal seams to prevent any loss
  • Loco boxes are complete, and the set box is compete as well with all flaps taped internally. Note the tape on the outside was added by the original owner
  • Includes a Mint 1957 catalog, four sheets of original Lionel paper, "How to Operate" manual, dual motor diesel instruction sheet, 12 curved, 7 straight and 1 insulated straight piece of Super O track, 2373 CP AA Locomotive, three 2552 Skyline 500 Vista Domes, and a Banff Park observation
  • Doyle's reference guide book value for this set is $10,000 with a rarity of 6 on a scale of 1 to 8. Built in 1957 only. DNS.
