  • Contains 2333 Santa Fe AA F3 units, 2458 automobile box car, 3459 operating coal car, 2555 Sunoco single dome tank car, 2357 illuminated caboose, and instruction book
  • 1948 was the year Lionel produced their first "stand alone" diesel locomotive - the 2333 F3 AA in two road names (NYC and Santa Fe)
  • Tooling for the new locomotives was jointly financed by General Motors, the Santa Fe and NYC railroads, and Lionel
  • GM built the real locos and General Motors decals were installed on the Lionel versions
  • The locomotives in the 1948 set were typically rubber-stamped with red and white Santa Fe and white NYC decals positioned above the "Built by Lionel" lettering on the locomotive sides
  • Finding a 2333 in Excellent or better condition is difficult because the paint sometimes flaked off the plastic bodies until Lionel got the techniques and mixes down perfectly
  • Although graded Excellent, this loco is exceptional and looks Like New from an arms length away
  • Note the "pencil lines" and dings on the rear roof rectangle of the powered unit, along with a ding adjacent to one of the small rectangular vents on the engineers side. There is box rub on the roof exhaust ports and dings on the edge of roof on the engineers side
  • The only significant thing on the non-powered unit is a slight discoloration of the silver in the two large rectangular screens on the fireman's side along with box rub on the exhaust ports
  • So you know exactly what you are getting, please don't let our attempt to describe every mark detract from the overall outstanding condition of this loco and relatively rare set!
  • All cars are Like New
  • All boxes are reproduction boxes except for the original 3459 automatic ore car
  • Also comes with original instruction sheets for the loco and ore car
  • Transformer was not cataloged in set and we have not included track
