| The 2242 New Haven in this set is considered by many to be among the rarest if not the rarest Post-War F3, making this set equally scarceNew Haven A unit body molds are different from all other F3's because the mold was changed to eliminate the "door handle" on the nose to provide a smooth surface to rubber-stamp the "NH" on the noseThis set has the correct bodyMost New Haven's found today are fakes, being painted-on bodies with door handles. This occured after Lionel released unpainted bodies in the late '60'sThe fakes also have rubber-stamped "New Haven" lettering and rubber-stamped numerals "2242" instead of the correct heat-stamping on factory originalsAll cars are Like NewThe loco looks Like New also, but marks on the roof (as detailed below) require a grade of ExcellentThe 6357 caboose is the correct maroon version with metal trucksThe 3444 animated gondola has the correct directions dated 5-57The 6468-25 automobile box car has the correct black doors, AAR trucks and a full serif on the "N"The 6464-425 New Haven box car has a full serif and AAR trucksThe 6424 auto flat car has yellow and green premium cars - the same color as shown in the catalogLOCOMOTIVE DETAILS: the sides, front and rear of the loco and B unit are perfectBoth roofs have small marks as as pictured ans as described belowThe powered unit has a cluster of marks above the cab windows, also just forward of the louvers, a tiny cluster next to the circular dimple, and marks on the large rectangle at the rearThe B unit has numerous small marks on both roof rectanglesBoxes include an extremely rare master carton for the New Haven locos (which were not included in sets) but no seperate loco boxes normally in the setsAll rolling stock boxes are reproductions except for the 3444 animated gondola box and the 6424 auto flat car. The auto car box is missing flaps on one end. |
